Hey Matt, this is a pretty hot topic in the shout box right now. People are wanting to know how you determine which players will declare for the NBA and which will go to College. They have a bunch of suggestions I'm sure they'll chime in with once you post your response.
Some people also expressed concern with us being 40 days into the season and not having scouting reports for the big names.

Prospect ratings should be known well in advance
also if there is uncertainty over what'll be available in the draft, people won't be as eager to throw in the towel, and 1st rounders won't be seen as gold. In the NBA lottery picks are valuable, but they aren't seen as sure things the way people are treating them in this league thus far

I think all scouting reports and the player pool should be done before the season starts.
I have no problem with players waiting to declare.

Outside of the top 2-3 players every year it doesn't really matter what scouting reports there are.
You take a gamble like every other NBA team.

as well as wanting to know who is coming out because I am relying heavily on this draft being stockpiled at the top but Im doing so blindly to this point.

Here’s my idea. Its going to seem like a lot of work based on all of this typing, but it really wouldn’t take me longer than 10 minutes to do each year, and wouldn’t take anyone else’s time. I could also send the results to Jo before anyone sees them to have a declarations thread, which would also to keep the suspense of declarations.
The idea stems off of arthur’s idea a long time ago about basing players’ declarations on a dice roll. We could have the league decide on which projected pick slots get what percentage (just stay with me). Matt did a mock draft very early last year, so if he (or poetic, 20s, jo, whoever) would be willing to do one for the top 20 (or however many we need to do this for) every year, we could start getting an idea of what the class may look like early on.
So, like I said the league would decide on which projected slots get what %. The odds are based off of two die, so for now here are some example percentages. There are 36 possible combinations, so say we do it like this:
Projected 1st overall: 5.6% chance (2 combinations (2/36)) of going to school; so if the roll ends up 1-1 or 2-2, someone like LBJ or Howard goes to school for a year
2nd and 3rd: 8.3% chance (3 combinations (3/36)); so the rolls would be 1-1, 2-2, or 3-3
4th and 5th: 11.1% chance (4 combinations (4/36))
6-10: 22.2% chance… (8 combinations 8/36))
and so on until we do the top 20 draft picks or so, since that’s all that would be essential. I would film (or anyone, doesn’t matter who does it) a 1-2 minute, one shot video of just the 20 dice rolls, which would provide verification that the declaration results are what they say they are in the declaration thread. This would allow us to account for the fact that guys like LBJ, Howard, etc. have a much smaller chance at going to school than others, and would also keep the declarations ambiguous, while keeping an almost completely level playing field for the league in terms of the draft. It seems like a lot, but this really wouldn’t take more than 10 minutes each year. We could decide as a league what the percentages could be, and I’ll figure out the combinations based on them (we’d obviously have to keep the % out of 36 exactly). I understand that there are random dice generators online, but that leaves me the ability to refresh the results until I get something I like. A one-shot video of the dice rolls eliminates this gray area of being able to re-roll them until I get the results I want.

I will do a test run tonight (minus the video) based on Matt's "Mock Draft v1.0" and add the next 7 guys that got drafted so everyone can see how this would work.

JO has a list pre-made.
Most drats will consist of the same level of talent heading into it in RL. Some my be higher than in RL and some may be lower but overall they will stay the same.

jay, if you were gonna do your idea, just a roll a 36 sided die instead of two six sided dice. That way you don't have to determine which results are being used to stay or go. 36 sided die: 1 or 2 for top guys, 1 thru 8 for lesser guys, etc.

Yeah, either would work fine, I just figured it'd be easier for people to see the dots on a die on a video than the tiny numbers. I'd roll like a white and a black die, and the combinations for each percentage we'd end up deciding on would be posted long before any real rolling takes place.
