I thought of this article yesterday when I wanted to see a league record book...so I made my own . Here are the greatest performances in league history and some historical notes to go along with them. It took a longgg time to research but I hope you enjoy.
Points: 57, Grant Hill
The most coveted record goes to Grant who put up 57/8/5 against the Kings earlier this year. How'd he pull off this feat? 20 for 22 from the line certainly helped. And a workmanlike 17 for 31 from the floor put him over the top. Scoring almost half of his team's 115 points, Hill led the squad to an 8 point victory, which means I'm sure the squad will forgive his 7 turnovers.
Three guys have scored 56 points in a game (Chris Webber, Allen Iverson and Shaquille O'Neal), but Hill's 57 takes the cake. Although Webber's best game might have been a 53/17/6 effort. Interestingly enough all three are Eastern teams.
Three squads, Detroit, Indiana and the Clippers have never even had a 40 point scorer.
Field Goals Attempted: 41, Zachary Randolph
But he only made 21
Field Goals: 26, Allen Iverson
Free Throws Attempted: 31, Shaquille O'Neal
But he only made 5 (Just kidding).
Free Throws: 23, Chris Webber
As part of the magical effort I described before. Could this performance be the GOAT individual player game? It came against Shaq's Wizards too.
Three-Pointers Attempted: 18, Rashard Lewis i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/3.0/sect/basketball/nba/logos/Eastern Conference Powerhouse Hornets.jpg[/img]
How'd he do?
Three-Pointers: 9, Rashard Lewis i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/3.0/sect/basketball/nba/logos/Eastern Conference Powerhouse Hornets.jpg[/img]
p good.
Lewis' real life team has never had a player hit five in a game yet. They should call him.
Steals: 9, Allen Iverson and Antwan Jamison i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/3.0/sect/basketball/nba/logos/hawks.jpg[/img]
Neither are surprising. I was kind of surprised we've never had a 10 steal game but some team playing the Warriors will get there soon.
Assists: 21, Steve Francis
The only 20-assist game in league history
Rebounds: 30, Shaquille O'Neal
Mutumbo's 28 is the only game that has come even close to Shaq's monster effort.
Blocks: 11, Jermaine O'Neal and Alonzo Mourning
SWAT team up in this bitch. How good has Zo been? besides a 29 point/14 rebound/11 block tripdoub against the Nets he's also had 5 nine or ten block games. If you were to list the top 10 top block games only Ryan Humphrey would be on the list outside of these two.
Neither Detroit nor New York has ever even had a five-block player. Zo AVERAGES More than either team has EVER gotten. Dear lawd.
Turnovers: 13, DaJuan Wagner
Gross. Shaq had 12 once and a bunch of guys have had 10.
Team Points: 144
Denver is the only team never to score 120. Boston averages almost 114 a game.
Team Points Allowed: 48
Wow.
Also, every team has scored more than 75 against the Knicks.
Team Rebounds: 81
This is the most dominating record there is. No team has ever come within 10 of this one.
Team Assists: 43
This is the least dominating record. Every team is within 10. A bunch of teams are within three.
Team Steals: 23
Jailblazers? STEAL!? NEVER
Team Turnovers: 34
Team Three-Pointers: 15 i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/3.0/sect/basketball/nba/logos/Eastern Conference Powerhouse Hornets.jpg[/img]
I'mma ask Poe to make a thread for this and have you all update when you break a record. I think it's cool to have around.
