If Denver can move Mashburn: Great fucking move. If Denver can't move Mashburn: Stupid fucking move. I clear about 17 mil + Horford, Martin and Jack's current contract to try and resign them. Smart move IMO Next year you had: 7 players on the books 1 second rounder They totaled 64.673988 in salary for next year If you signed a guy for the minimum, that leaves 20.326012m left for the three players, or 6.77533733 per. Now you have 5 players on the books 1 second rounder Let's assume you use your MLE, LLE and a minimum guy That's 9 guys at 50.974926m That leaves you 34.025074m to resign the three slightly above average guys, one of which (Jack) will be a backup for six years. How much are you going to pay to keep those three? Enough to put yourself back in cap hell? My point was that unless you deal Mash and get under soft cap, this deal really doesn't do anything besides trade valuable players for cap that you don't need. It won't matter if you're at 84m or 70m next season. You don't have your first for three years, I just would have tried to deal useful players for picks or something that will actually help you down the road.

I think Horford, Jack and Martin will help me down the road. They probably will. But they certainly aren't all worth $7m per for an extended period. My point is you didn't have to trade valuable players for cap space since you didn't need cap space. If you were reallllly pressed, you could have dealt Jamison for expirings+picks. You could get that for a 19.7 ppg guy. If you just dealt Jamison you would have: 1. Acquired picks 2. Still have Odom 3. Still had the space to MLE and LLE guys AND afforded $8.96742067m per for your three above average guys...which is way above their value Just don't get why you're dealing assets for cap space you don't need. Are you going to win with Chandler/Horford/Martin/Jack/JayWill as your core in the next few years? You don't have your first until 2011 and you won't be under soft cap forever to sign FAs. Just don't get what you're trying to do.

But Jamison doesn't. That's why I said if he were desperate he should deal Jamison since I doubt he could have takers for Odom.
