*DISCLAIMER* I did not include every team in the league in the draft
The 2007 draft was without a doubt one of the most anticipated classes in recent memory. Headlined by future elite superstars like Chris Paul and Kevin GOAT sim league player Durant, this was one of the deepest draft classes in sim league history even all the way through the bottom of the second round.
Not unlike its depth, this draft also produced vast entertainment, from lotto victories (and defeats) to trades that held the entire league by the throat down to 2 GMs plotting such a magnificent trolling of a franchise that it almost rivals that specific team's own real life trolling of said franchise.
Without further ado, there are your winners and losers from the entertaining 2007 draft:
WINNER
Net assets: Darko Milicic, rights to Marco Belinelli, Darryl Watkins, future 1st rounder from Milwaukee Bucks
Jumping into the top 2 of this year's draft might be enough for some people, but not for the Jazz. spinning a web of trolling so masterfully immediately after the lotto that they trolled the entire league and more specifically, the Fighting Kahns franchise for an entire 2 days while working behind the scenes to take that #2 pick into Vlade Milicic, a future lotto pick AND a stashing of a highly touted Marco Belinelli and center Darryl Watkins without so much as using a single stashing.
Grade: A+++
RUNNER UP
Net assets: Tyrus Thomas, Spencer Hawes, Marc Gasol, Jeff Green
Remnants from the now infamous Pau Gasol trade yielded yet another #2 projected pick, while the sim league rejoiced at the Celtics striking out in lottery, commissioner Poetic took advantage of yet another desperate gm wanting to move ahead in the draft due to similar targets. Another year, another 4 top 10 worthy talents added to the Celtics, what else is new?
Grade: A++
THE CONSOLATION PRIZES
Net assets: Mike Conley, Corey Brewer, Tiago Splitter, Adam Morrison, Joel Anthony, Brad Newley
One of the more painful lottery in recent memory for the team that spent an entire two seasons shedding talent, acquiring picks, trimming salaries in preparation for the arrival of Kevin GOAT sim league player Durant/Chris Paul. Despite not winning the lottery or even coming in second, the Fighting Kahns' previous trades of acquiring 1st rounders have paid off handsomely. Having 5 total 1st rounders in a very deep draft, the Wolves have completely revamped their starting lineup, added depth and still have a league leading 30 mil in cap space for free agency.
Grade: A+
Net assets: Kevin GOAT sim league player Durant, Stephane Lasme, Gabe Pruitt, Al Thornton, Coby Karl
The clear winner of the lottery, in any other year this would have been the clear winner of the draft as well if not for being overshadowed by crafty and opportunistic gms/commissioners. The Bees were able to pick up transcendent talent Kevin GOAT sim league player Durant with a solid role player in Gabe Pruitt along with 2 raw but talented players in Stephane Lasme and Al Thornton.
Grade: A+
SOLID DRAFTS
Net assets: Chris Paul, Kevin Love
Despite giving up Darko, the Bucks walked away from the draft with one of the best prospects in the entire sim league history in a senior Chris Paul, whom many regard as "bust proof". In addition, with their own pick, they were able to pick up a young Kevin Love, one of the more interesting center prospects that is as fundamentally sound as any the league has seen.
Grade: A+
Net assets: Kendrick Perkins, Yi Jianlian, Steven Smith, Marcus Williams
Despite the controversial trade involving a Center whom many in the league considered to the overpaid, the Magic had one of the better drafts in the league, along with Perkins, they were able to build up some much needed front court depth and should look to challenge the East for a playoff spot immediately next year.
Grade: A
Net assets: OJ Mayo, Glen Davis
If it weren't for headliners Chris Paul and Kevin GOAT sim league player Durant, OJ Mayo might have been a top 2 pick this year and should prove to make an immediate impact on the Hawks. This is by far the best haul for any team without more than one 1st round pick.
Grade: A
Net assets: Anthony Tolliver, Jared Dudley
Despite having the 2nd best record in the league, the Suns were still able to put together a solid class, gm Matt should come away from this draft very happy
Grade: A-
Net assets: Milovan Rakovic', George Printezis
Despite picking up ownership of a franchise during the day of the draft, the new GM of the Warriors were able to put together a solid class with only 2nd rounders and the last pick of the draft, bravo to new Warriors gm I say
Grade: B+
MIDDLE OF THE PACK
Net assets: Jason Smith, Demetris Nichols
Grade: B+
Net assets: Acie Law
Grade: B+
Net assets: D.J. Strawberry, Jermareo Davidson
Grade: B+
Net assets: Rudy Fernandez
Grade: B
Net assets: Rodney Stuckey
Grade: B
LOSERS
Net assets: Michael Beasley, Derrick Byars
Only in special situations can a team pick up Michael Beasley in a draft and still be considered to come up on the losing side. By offering up a trade that will forever be included in the lores of TMBSL as "The 76ers trade the 5th pick and Michael Beasley clone for Michael Beasley". The only redeeming point for the 76ers? They drafted MICHAEL BEASLEY.
Grade: D+
Net assets: Sean Williams, Carl Landry
Picking up a defender with your 1st rounder only to have the Eastern Conference Powerhouse Hornets pick up an equally talented defender with better stats everywhere else 2 picks later? only in TMBSL can a 2nd round pick salvage a team's 1st round pick.
Grade: D+
Net assets: Josh McRoberts, Zachary Ahye
Josh McRoberts in the first round, enough said...what's even worse is that the Fighting Kahns picked up a better player in Adam Morrison immediately after the Pistons selected JOSH MCROBERTS in the first round, and who the hell is Zachary Ahye?
Grade: D
THE CROWN OF STUPIDITY
Net assets: Reyshawn Terry, Brandon Wallace
Once upon a time, a rule was put in place to prevent the sim league from talking about available rookies, 2 hours later, user dumptime broke the rule talking about a rookie he didn't even pick. User dumptime justifies picking Reyshawn Terry over a CERTAIN PLAYER by hoping Terry experiences growth during training camp.
Reyshawn Terry hopes to grow up to be just like Jordan Roberson after a good training camp.
