Nick Young
Age: 22
Height: 6'6''
Weight: 206
Position: SG/SF
School: University of Southern California
Inside = C+: While Young has been known to electrify crowds with big finishes off fast breaks and alley-oops, he can also go long periods of time without attacking the basket, made even more disappointing by the fact he is a plus athlete who is able to elevate over most college defenders.
Outside = B: Young's perimeter game is the skill most likely to translate to the next level. Young idolizes Kobe Bryant, and he uses some of the same moves and footwork that #24 employs to get his shot off. Has good elevation on his jumper, and has an excellent fadeaway jumper. He made huge strides from his sophomore to junior season, raising his FG% from 46 to 52%, which is even more impressive when one considers many of Young's shots came with the ball in his hand late in the shot clock.
Handling = C: Young's confidence in his ability to score can often lead to him to dominating the ball and overdribbling at times. His first step is above-average, and compared to other 3's in the league he is a capable ballhandler, but if he is going to play the 2 in the NBA, this will be an area he will need to improve a bit.
Defense = C: Young certainly has the athleticism to be a capable defender at the next level, but he is often too aggressive, gambling for steals often. This can lead to Young finding himself in foul trouble early in the game. His defensive footwork is still a work in progress.
Rebounding = C: Averaged 4.6 RPG his junior season.
Potential = A: Young is a plus athlete (44 inch vertical) with an NBA-ready perimeter game. In many ways, his success in the league will be based on his desire, because if he focuses on attacking the rim, he will have opposing defenders guessing all game long. At the very least he should provide a scoring spark off the bench from the start of his career.
