It’s still very early in the process and not every prospect has made it clear if they will enter the draft or not but I wanted to do a two part Mock Draft. The first part will be the Mock Lotto along with my Big Board. Once the declarations are made later in the year I will make do a final mock and Big Board. It will all be one article but you can vote now. The update is just for GM’s who may need a helping hand come draft night.
1. Kevin GOAT sim league player Durant SF 6'9'' 200 17 B- B C C C A
Kevin GOAT sim league player Durant is the best talent to come out of the draft since LeBron James. At only 17 years old Kevin has shined on every court he has stepped on. The biggest question surrounding Kevin is will he come out? Its hard for a kid to pass up being the number one overall pick. I think Kevin comes out and the Wizzards begin the rebuilding.
2. Greg Oden C 7'0'' 240 18 B- D+ C- B B A
The rich get richer. Boston traded away Micheal Redd for the rights of this pick. Originally belonging to the Detroit Pistons. Rumor has it the pick was on its way back in a block buster deal involving Zo but GM Rv12 wanted to treat Poetic like he was Dumptime and the deal was killed. Boston could go a few different directions with this pick. Select Rudy Gay and slide him into SG or draft CP3 and move Wade to SG and have by far the best back court in sim league. But I think Poetic will pick Greg Oden. With Kendrick Perkins possibly on the way out of Boston Oden will fill in without missing a beat.
3. Chris Paul PG 6'0'' 180 21 C+ B B C+ C A
Portland will regret moving this pick. CP3 falls in the lap of the Utah Jazz. The best PG prospect to come out in recent draft history the sky is the limit for Chris. Bogut and Paul will form a great combo as the Jazz climb to the top of the west once again.
4. LaMarcus Aldridge PF 6'11'' 234 20 B C C C+ B- A
LaMarcus is a more polished prospect the Greg Oden but like many big men he lacks a killer instinct. But with out question Aldridge is a super talented big man. Spurs are lacking size and they could slide LaMarcus into either the PF or C role.
5. Rudy Gay SF 6'8'' 220 19 B- C+ C B- C+ A
I can see a few prospects coming off at this slot. But at the end of the day the Cavs would love to add this skilled wing player. Rudy has the ability to play SG or SF two areas of need for the Cavs. The biggest question for Rudy is will he come to play every game. If he can the Cavs just selected one of the best scorers in the entire draft.
6. Brandon Roy SG 6'6'' 207 21 B C+ B- C+ C A
The Sixers are a veteran group and are maxed out cap wise. Getting players who could fill multiple roles is a big plus in this case. Enter Brandon Roy. He can play some point or move over to the two guard position and fill it up for you.
7. Monta Ellis SG 6'3'' 180 20 B- C+ C+ C C- A
Lakers could go with Rondo in this slot but with Erik Barkley now in town the need for a PG is not high. Especially a PG who can’t score. Monta is not a play making PG he is a undersized scoring two guard. He gives the Lakers instant offense. Still only 20 years old Monta could eventually develop into a PG but for now he is going to be the Lakers SG.
8. Joakim Noah C 6'11'' 230 21 B- C- C B- B- A
Noah is one of the most hated players coming into the NBA. Not because he can’t play but because he does all the small things that work opposing fans nerves. Noah would be a good compliment to Gasol who is not a banger. Noah reminds me of a taller Dennis Rodman but I also have heard the comparison to Kevin Garnett.
9. Andrea Bargnani PF 6'10'' 225 20 C+ B C+ C C A
Not that Bargnani is a bad selection because he is not. But Pistons fans must be kicking themselves with the thought of Greg Oden or CP3 not in a Pistons uniform. Bargnani is a talented big man who lives outside the paint. He is the best available prospect on my big board and with no major need I say the Pistons take Andrea and possibly stash him in Europe for a few years.
10. Tyrus Thomas PF 6’8” 217 20 C+ C- C B- B- A
With the possibility of losing Amare Staudamire this summer the Suns need to look to the future. Enter the biggest hit or miss prospect in this draft. Ty could be the most talented player in this draft. But he has the lowest basketball IQ. If the light turns on Thomas may become one of the best in the class if not Matt will be looking to get rid of him asap.
11. Adam Morrison SF 6'8'' 200 21 B B C C C B
With the first twist in this draft I see Adam going to New Jersey. Adam is one of the best players in college basketball. Question is can his game translate to the NBA. Not the most athletic player to come out in this draft Adam should fit in well with Yao and Foye.
12. Ronnie Brewer SF 6’7” 222 C+ C B- B C B
Chose a PG with good defense and no offensive skill or chose a small forward with good defense and no offensive skill. The choices the choices. I have a feeling the Wolves will make a major push for Jay Williams in the off season and pick Brewer to slide into the small forward or shooting guard position. But this pick could be Rajon Rondo.
13. Rajon Rondo PG 6'2'' 180 20 C D+ B B C+ A The Bulls are a player away from being a very good team. Is Rondo that player? No but he is the best available on the big board and to talented to pass up at this point. If Rondo would fall to 13 I suspect Chicago’s phone would be ringing off the hook.
* Part 2 of the big board and mock draft will be posted after the draft lotto. You can vote now as it will all be one article.
