Inside = C+: What Redick lacks in athleticism he makes up for in smarts. While he isn’t going to go up and dunk over anybody, he is underrated in his ability to get to the FT line (Nearly 8 FTA per game his SR year). His mid-range jump shot improved greatly, his FG% rising from 40.8% his JR year to 47% his SR year.
Outside = A-: Redick possesses one of the most picture-perfect shooting strokes in college basketball today. Much like Reggie Miller and Rip Hamilton, JJ Redick uses screens to free himself for open looks. Redick connected on 42.1% of 3PT attempts his senior year.
Handling = C: Redick is a fundamentally sound ball-handler, but you’ll never see him breaking any ankles in the NBA. Always willing to make the correct pass.
Defense = C: At 6’4’’, Redick is at a height disadvantage against most NBA SG’s. While he averages a respectable 1.5 steals per game, it’s tough to imagine Redick keeping up defensively with NBA 2-guards.
Rebounding = D+: His SR year he averaged 2.0 RPG.
Potential = B: Athletically, Redick could probably be described as “maxed out.” In many ways, what you see is what you get. Any improvements in Redick’s game will have to come from pure dedication. But luckily for JJ and his potential owner, Redick is both a hard worker and one of the smartest players to come out of college in quite some time.
