Andrea Bargnani Age: 20 Height: 6’10’’ Weight: 225 Position: F Inside = C+: Bargnani has great touch on his midrange jumper, but has very little experience playing with his back to the basket Outside = B: Really quick release with great shot mechanics. The ability to catch and shoot this well is rare for a 7-footer. Handling = C+: Highly skilled ball-handler for someone his size, can beat men off the dribble. Defense = C: May find himself in between positions defensively in the league. He isn’t quick enough to stay in front of the more athletic SF’s, and he isn’t strong enough yet to bang in the post with NBA PF’s. Rebounding = C: Plays more of a perimeter role for his Italian team, not to mention once again lack of strength will make it tough for him to fight for position down low. Potential = A: Very few 7 footers are this skilled. His versatility and upside may have GM’s envisioning the next Dirk Nowitzki. He has the skills to flourish in an up-tempo offense. If he can add some muscle to his 7 foot frame, he should reward the team selecting him for years to come. Note: Bargnani is reportedly in very good shape as far as his buyout is concerned. He is on very good terms with his team Benetton Treviso and complied with their request to stay for another season in exchange for a bump in his salary and a bigger role on their team this year. He’s definitely been playing more minutes this season, but his role in Benetton’s offense and Coach Blatt’s substitution patterns have been confusing at times to say the least. From what we’ve been told, his buyout is “very manageable” and should not be an issue affecting his draft stock.
