The season hasn't started yet and already the Lakers are off to a rocky start. A team heralded for it's sustained success over the decades looks to be headed into the regular season out of the playoff race, and likely a couple years away. My sources tell me that the owner, Ricky Jupiter, was furious at the front office for some of their selection, and trade decisions during the draft. He felt they were caught by surprise too often, and relied too much on their pre-draft board instead of reacting to possibilities to move up and other teams decisions.
I don't know if I necessarily feel the same way as Mr. Jupiter, but I can see where he is coming from. After taking Jason Kidd at #10 it always seemed like LA was in a scramble for their pick instead of being fully prepared for the round ahead. This caused them to maybe reach on their middle round picks Tim Thomas, Tyson Chandler, and Samuel Dalembert. It seemed they'd be building for the now with the pick of Jason Kidd, but they surrounded him with four starters under 25 years old.
This begs the question - are they wasting the last of Jason Kidd's prime years?
In my heart I hope not. But my head tells me they are two to three seasons away from a deep playoff run with this team, but when the twin towers develop they could be dominant.
