Weight- 220
Position- SG
Former Team- Oregon
Strengths
You won't find a player in this draft with bigger bounce then Freddy or Fred Jones. This talented senior was an athletic guard for the Oregon Ducks who busted onto the NBA radar after a huge senior year that saw him contend for PAC-10 POY honors while averaging 18 ppg and leading the Ducks to the Elite 8. He is a solid defender with long arms and good quickness.
Weakness
Jones is a tweener. Not big enough to be a starting SG but not good enough as a PG to start there. He needs to develop his ball handling more to become a PG where he would best be suited with his frame. If not he could be very limited in where he goes. He also isn't going to be the best defender in the world when he matches up against SGs. If he starts or sees major minutes he will need to be paired with a bigger PG who can guard SGs.
Scout's Take
Jones is someone that I am very interested to see develop over the next 3 years. He develops the skills to run the PG he could be a 12 year vet in the league or if he fails he could be out of the league in 4 when his rookie deal is up. He is very athletic and can certainly dunk the ball but can he do more than that against bigger SG? His ceiling isn't a question however as I believe he is a late bloomer as he came on his final season. He might be a lottery pick but that is being very nice. Should he fall past 20 in the draft a team will get a steal.
