First I wanted to thank everyone who took some time out to answer my questions. I plan on doing this yearly to get a feel of the league. With that said on to the article............
1. How are you feeling about your team at this very moment?
ZPZ: Pretty good, it's nice to be in the upper half of the standings for a change, it's bittersweet knowing that there are a few teams that are just flat out better than mine, but I just have to hope for an upset or 2 in the playoffs.
Irush: I feel a somewhat significant amount of regret as far as trading all of the pieces I acquired around Yao. He is having his best season and it certainly makes me wonder what if, but the draft picks and cap room I currently have, makes me excited for the off-season. Team was getting old and not competing the way I wanted so its a bit of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario.
Ohhaithur: I like what I've done to get myself ready for the future. Ely/Griffin/Telfair will be a great core to build around and I'm still deciding on Stackhouse. Those four guys will give anyone a run for their money now, plus I only have $5m on the books after this year so I can make a run at free agents and I have six 1st rounders the next three years.
Skrouse: Optomistic at best, I have few good pieces with Jefferson, Randolph and Jackson, I just hope I can resign the latter 2 for reasonable contracts. I should have 2 top 10 picks this year to add a few young talented players to the fold along with a few solid bench players in White, Jones and Minard that play their roles very well. Minard and White are starters this year but after the draft they should take up the roles in which they were intended to have, bench roles.
Duc15: I am feeling pretty good about my team. We have made some moves to hopefully get better inside and on the bench. Adding Ruben Patterson and then Scott Pollard we feel will help heading into the playoffs. I’m just not sure that when we match up with a good Post player that we will be able to stop them.
Dump: I am feeling that I have my future PG and C, and those are 2 key positions in this league. I feel very good about my team.
Poetic: Pretty good, #1 overall seed. I had no idea what would happen when I traded Chris Webber, but I think my team is just as good as last year if not better.
Bankz: I feel ok about my team. I am very young. I have a few young studs but its going to take time for them take the next step. Jay Williams, Shaun Livingston, Caron Butler and Nene is a good base but this team is still laking that one true mega star.
2. Who will represent the West and East in the NBA Finals?
ZPZ: East- Celtics, West - i have no clue
Irush: I see the Celtics adding to their trophy cases with a win over the Sonics.
Ohhaithur: Celtics v. whoever gets hot. No idea in the west
Skrouse: Should be the Celtics and Sonic obviously the 2 best teams in their respective Confs but I like the TWolves solid D to make a splash in the post season.
Duc15: I think out of the East you have to go with the Celtics again. They are the defending champs and they seem to be clicking on all cylinders again heading towards the playoffs. As for the west though I will have to go with the Sonics they have a very good collection of scores up there. It will be interesting to see how they can mesh in such short time as the playoffs come.
Dump: When Billups was healthy, Sonics. Right now, it would have to be either the TWolves or Warriors.
Poetic: Prior to the Billups injury, I would have said Sonics in the West for sure. Don't know now. West is pretty tight. Top 6 seeds are all within 3 games. I'll say Celtics vs. Kings...
Bankz: Going outside the box on this one. East: Knicks West: Kings
3. Where do you see your team in the next 3-5 years?
ZPZ: Still a contender in the East
Irush: Depends on how this offseason goes, if I make solid picks and sign good players with my cap room, then in 3 to 5 years I see the Nets as a perennial playoff contender and hopefully having a shot at winning it all. However, this offseason goes awry, I could easily be a lottery team for the foreseeable future.
Ohhaithur: Next year I expect to run out: Telfair/Lister/Stack/Griffin/Ely
I think with my massive amounts of cap room and my firsts I can make the necessary moves to be great over the next three years. First make for amazing trade bait. Plus we have no clue how FA will shake out so those picks could end up to be fantastic.
Skrouse: Hopefully as a title contender, Jefferson will be in his early 20's, Randolph and Jackson will be in their primes and hopefully the 2 top 10 picks this year develop into talented players as well.
Duc15: At this point I feel like that is a hard question to answer with the way this summer is appearing it is going to play out. We do have a couple young PFs on our roster that we hope can continue to improve so we can have something to build around. We are also lacking 1st rounder’s going forward so that is something we will look to maybe acquire going forward.
Dump: Hopefully being a playoff team. No matter where in the playoffs.
Poetic: Should be a playoff team for a while. I have 1 of the best young guys in the league and if I can resign Marion, should be ok.
Bankz: Well I think I am one major player away from being a top team in the east. I have a good base and most of my talent is locked up long term. I am about 25m under the cap and should be able to get a the key piece I am missing if luck will look my way.
4. Are you worried about the FA market?
ZPZ: No because I feel most of the difference makers will re-up with their respective teams. There will be some really good FA's available, but not guys you will pick up and instantly become great because of.
Irush: Worried? No, I dont stand to lose a big name like many teams do, however I am anxious to see how the competition for big names will play out, anything can happen but I feel we will get the player(s) we need with the resources we have.
Ohhaithur: Not at all. I will be maxing Eddie Griffin and that leaves Stackhouse as the only other expiring that I care about. I traded Glove, Patterson, Pollard and Maggette to rid myself of the burden of this FA period. I know at worst I lose Stack and have $40m in cap available.
Skrouse: Slightly, I am going to try to simply fill wholes so I'm not worried about getting Kobe or anyone, but I am worried about Randolph or Jackson leaving.
Duc15: Worried is not the word I would use intrigued is the word I feel that fits it better. There are a lot of big names that appear to be headed towards FA but I’m going to like to see which don’t even reach the open market and choose to stay with their current team. And for my #1 priority is going to be Gilbert Arenas and getting him to stay and then sending out our offers.
Dump: I am worried that I am gonna be too cheap and lose out on the stars.
Poetic: Yes, I've been worried about it for a couple seasons. I'm worried I'll underbid or overpay on guys I want. It's hard to predict what other's are going to offer if the first 3 off-seasons are any indication.
Bankz: Hell yes. I got very unlucky in the lotto last year and so far the few off-season’s we have had the biggest signing I was able to get is Milt Palacio. So I clearly have not figured it out. Add to that who knows what players will re-up and what players will stay loyal.
5. Name the top 5 FA players on the market?
ZPZ: in no order Billups, Kobe, Dirk, Baron, Jermaine O'Neal
Irush: My top 5 potential FA's? Have to go Kobe at 1, no question, no need to explain. Number 2, Tim Duncan, would love to have him along side Yao, no question. 3, Shawn Marion, big time defender and rebounder and a more than adequate scorer. 4, Kevin Garrnett and 5, Dirk Nowitzki, obviously there are some vets more talented than some guys on my list but I tried to focus on the younger guys that would fit my team better.
Ohhaithur:
1. Kobe
2. Gilbert
3. Chauncey
4. KG
5. Dirk
Skrouse: There are way too many to list Kobe is obviously #1 & J O'Neal would be my #2 other than that the market is over flowing with talent like Shaq, Sheed, Webber, B Davis, Nash, Hill, Kidd, Francis... Etc there are so many players that could be available.
Duc15:
Kobe Bryant- He I feel is the clear number 1 player this offseason and he will be everyone’s top target and the clear best player in the League.
Kevin Garnett- He is so versatile and well rounded as a player that he may be the most complete player in the league. He can do just about it all and would be a top choice for anyone as an organization
Baron Davis- I really like him as a PG and he is a great player who has done a lot for the Clippers.
Tracy McGrady- he is still young and such a good score that someone will be very lucky to acquire him this off season.
Jermaine O’neal- Because of his age and position he is a very good C and still young enough to get better.
Dump: Kobe, Duncan, Dirk, Billups, Vince Carter
Poetic: Kobe Bryant, Chauncey Billups, Baron Davis, Jermaine O'Neal, and Gilbert Arenas
Bankz:
Kobe Bryant: Best player in the league and its not close
Jermaine O’Neal: One of the best young power forwards in this game.
DirkNowitzki: Another great young power forward.
Baron Davis: Best available point guard
Vince Carter: MVP candidate year in and out. Premier shooting guard in the league not named Kobe Bryant.
6. Who do you think will stay loyal to thier team? And who is most likely to bail?
ZPZ: ehh pass
Ohhaithur: I think the top 40 or so FAs will be loyal. Young, solid guys will be maxed and I think all players who are offered max deals (6 years, 12.5% increases) will surely surely stay.
Skrouse: I'm not going to look through all their ratings individually but it will definitely be a case by case basis, as for my team, I expect to retain Jackson, but I will have to chase Randolph I think
Duc15: Well I really hope that Gilbert stays and feel for some reason that he will be loyal and look to stay. I think Rip Hamilton is someone who will look to go elsewhere. Those are the 2 big names on my roster and as for the other players I’m not sure one bit what they will do.
Dump: Most loyal would be Samuel Dalembert. Least loyal would be Shareef Abdur-Rahim.
Poetic: Not sure, hard to predict these things. You have to look at loyalty and play for winner ratings, plus greed.
Bankz: Well Dump has had no luck in retaining players so I will say all his players will jump ship. (sorry bro) To be honest who knows it’s a long shot to pick the right players but I will go with. Will Leave: Kobe Bryant Will Stay: Tim Duncan
7. Top 5 GM's and why?
ZPZ: Poetic, 20, w2d, Ohhaithur, MJ. They make good trades, shrewd moves, and have kept their teams in contention on a regular basis. I throw MJ in there because even tho his team is bad right now, he won a title. Only 2 other owners can claim that and 1 of them is no longer with us (RIP).
Irush: Top 5 GM's: Poetic, 20x4, ZPZ, Ianboyd and Ohhaithurr
Ohhaithur:
1. Dylan
2. Dylan
3. Dylan
4. Dylan
5. Dylan
Because he spits hot fire
poetic, ian, jpripper88, me and 20^4 in no order
Skrouse: Poetic obviously, you gotta give the Magic GM the #2 for winning a title, after that it's hazy, probably 20, the Rockets GM, and Ohhathier I suppose. The original Raptors GM would be my #5 if he did'nt resign.
Dump: Poetic, 20/20/20/20, ZeroPointZero, ohhaithur, IanBoyd. Their teams are good and they made the right moves to keep their teams good.
Poetic: IanBoyd, Ohhaithur, W2d, 20x4, and Dumptime of course. Not in order and no particular reason. I think they're all knowledgeable and have had top teams the whole time this thing has been going on.
Bankz: MJ, Ohhaithur, Poetic, zpz and w2d.
8. Bottom 5 GM's and why?
ZPZ: Melo, Dumptime, Bankz (sorry buddy), deadlymedley,
Skrouse. Pretty much all for making horrendous trades at one point or another, plus their teams have largely been out of contention most of the years.
Ohhaithur: Rather not answer
Skrouse: I would say Dump and I have done really shitty, though I've never done one of these before and was banking on Potential, Youth and Defense in the creation draft. I managed to pick a few busts and that hurt me a lot. My Zo trade was dumb, but I didn't expect Zo to continue his dominance for more than 1 year, again I was wrong. After dump and I it would be Spurs, Pacers and the Heat GMs, 0 playoff apperances and they have not drafted well. Trophie inheritted a terrible team so I cannot count him.
Dump: dumptime, Bankz, scatmanduse, Skrouse, deadley medley. Their teams suck right now. They all have potential to do better but it remains to be seen.
Poetic: I won't say 5 bad GMs, I think everyone tries. Even the teams who haven't been able to make the playoffs.
Bankz:
Bankz: Had a dynasty and fucked it up so bad. Lord have mercy on the Bulls.
Dump: You can’t move 3 studs and only get Drew Gooden in return.
Dudley: He is not active and well his team is horrible
9. Your thoughts on the league and how its run?
ZPZ: I have no problems with it now that Matt stepped down. I didn't like how he handled the draft process, but Poe does a great job.
Ohhaithur: I likes it. Should be much smoother with draft profiles done in advance.
Skrouse: I really enjoy the league, can't wait to do another now that I know what I'm doing. I think it's run well for the most part, most issues I have are software problems. I praise Poe for staying ontop of things very well.
Dump: Poetic does a good job and is one of the most active interim commissioners
Poetic: I think ok for my first time, I had no idea what I was doing a couple seasons ago but I feel it's good practice for when I start my 1990 league.
Bankz: I think the league has been great. We have had some up’s and down’s but for the majority of the league its our first time doing something like this so that is to be expected.
10. Anything about this league you would change?
ZPZ: I wish teams weren't so quick to tank (and i say this as a former tanker)
Ohhaithur: I wish everyone was as vocal and interested in everything as I am, but some losers have lives.
Skrouse: The only thing I would change is consistency for the draft classes, or at least a consistent way of doing things. I think it's crap that pretty much everyone every year save Boozer has come out and declared and this year 2 top 5 picks didn't, Roy and CP3...
Dump: No
Poetic: Board activity. Wish people posted more. Damn that shoutbox.
Bankz: I think we need more consistency when it comes to the draft and the profiles. I know Matt has given up those responsibility's and I expect Poetic and ZPZ to get things moving in the right direction. I would change the way we do assign points. Press Conferences flamed out and articles are hit and miss.
11. If you could swap teams with any team in the league right now, who would it be, and why?
ZPZ: the Celtics because they are the best and have young studs.
Ohhaithur: Nobody. I like building up my own team.
Skrouse: Raptors to have Kobe, you could build that team easily with the best player in TMBSL
Duc15: Honestly with so many geared towards the FA market I don’t know if I would switch with anyone. This summer will provide a lot of people with a chance to get better fast and for them to become and instant contender. But if I had to choose one it would be the Celtics. They have Dwayne Wade going forward for the future along with a very sound roster now that looks like it could win another title.
Dump: 1A. Raptors. 1B. Celtics. 1 team has the best player in the league, and 1 team is the most stacked with talent.
Poetic: Probably wouldn't trade, but maybe the Jazz. Ohh has aquired a lot of draft picks. Would be fun to try and rebuild that team.
Bankz: Toronto Raptors. Best player in the game. Would love to build a team around him.
12. Who is your go-to guy on asking advice on trades, if you have one?
ZPZ: None, i do everything solo.
Ohhaithur: I talk to poetic a bunch. We have pretty similar philosophies on guys and we bounce ideas off each other a lot. Ian would work too, but he is my rival so it would take steam off the rivalry.
Skrouse: Don't have one, used to be Supabran then he got a team. We still talk a lil bit about trades but we don't give away too much now that he has his own club.
Dump: I don't do that anymore....
Poetic: Ohhaithur, I always ask him for advice. 20 as well, but mainly Ohh.
Bankz: I have talked to Poetic a few times. But for the most part I handle trades on my own.
13. Give me your dream starting 5 of current players?
ZPZ:
PG - Wade
SG - Kobe
SF - Marion
PF - Eddie Griffin
C - Jermaine O'Neal
Irush: My dream starting 5: C: Yao Ming, PF: Tim Duncan SF: Shawn Marion SG: Kobe PG: Baron Davis.
Ohhaithur: For this year:
C: Mourning
PF: Garnett
SF: Dirk
SG: Kobe
PG: Chauncey
If Kobe alone is a 3 seed, this would go undefeated
Skrouse:
Dwight
Sheed
Hill
Kobe
Baron
Duc15:
PG- Steve Nash
SG- Kobe Bryant
SF- Rashard Lewis
PF- Kevin Garnett
C- Jermaine O’neal
Dump: Chauncey Billups, Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter, Dirk, Alonzo Mourning
Poetic: C - Jermaine O'Neal, PF - Dirk Nowitzki, SF - Shawn Marion, SG - Kobe Bryant, PG - Chauncey Billups
Bankz:
PG: Dwayne Wade
SG: Kobe Bryant
SF: Rashard Lewis
PF Dirk Nowitzki
C: Jermaine O’Neal

Duc15:

Bankz:
