Inside = B: Textbook midrange game. Can pull up and pop with the best of them, and can also finish at the basket. Shot 50% or better from the field 3 of his 4 years at Washington. Gets to the FT line well where he shot 81%.
Outside = C+: Wasn’t much of an outside shooter until his senior year, when he shot 40% from downtown on 97 attempts (His previous high was 27 attempts). Scouts are curious how his outside shot will translate to the NBA 3 point line.
Handling = B-. Roy’s ability to create off the dribble is as good as you’ll find from a SG. His first step is tremendous, and he is often able to create for teammates because of it. His handles are so good some wonder if he’d be able to handle some PG duty in the NBA. Led the Pac-10 in assist-to-turnover ratio his senior year.
Defense = C+: Fundamentally sound but doesn’t have exceptional foot speed. While he was a plus defender in college (at times guarding 4 positions at UW) it’s unlikely he’ll be able to duplicate that in the pros.
Rebounding = C: Decent rebounder as a guard at 5.6 RPG. Doesn’t have exceptional wingspan, however.
Potential = A: Every year he just gets better and better. While most college players hope to have 1 definable skill that translates well to the NBA, Roy has several. There are questions about his oft-injured knee, but Roy maintains the knee will not be an issue. If he can remain healthy, he is a potential future All-Star.
